Solid Fuel Rocket with Egg Payload

get the Lab Write Up here. Save it to your Google Drive and Share it when you are done.

PROBLEM/QUESTION

  • The problem of this assignment is to build a model rocket from house hold materials.

  • Contest number one is to get it to launch 1 egg and an altimeter over 500 feet without breaking the egg.

  • Contest number two is to have the egg stay aloft for more than 50 seconds

  • Contest number three is to have your team logo on it and make it look stylish.

HYPOTHESIS

Make a hypothesis about the rocket based on the change of an independent variable. For example; We hypothesize that our rocket will fly higher than rocket B because the boat tail on rocket A will create less base drag.

REQUIREMENTS/RESTRAINTS

  • Your team will design the pattern for the fins using Autodesk Inventor.

  • Design the nose-cone with Autodesk Inventor and print it with the 3D printer at school.

  • They must have only one stage.

  • They must be powered only by commercially-made model rocket motors of “F” or lower power.

  • Rockets may be any dimension, but must not exceed 500 grams (22 ounces) gross weight at liftoff (Note: California

  • They may not be commercially-made kits

  • But you can buy material such as tubes, and balsa wood

  • Any number of motors may be used, but the motors used must not contain a combined total of more that 80 Newton seconds of total impulse

  • The entire rocket must return to the ground safely with all parts connected together

  • Use only two separate and deployed parachutes of the same size as its sole recovery system.

  • You may NOT catch the rocket or egg. You must let it hit the ground!

STEP TWO REASEARCH (what have others done):

before you get started you should take a look at how others have done this in the past. Remember steal from the best and design the rest.

STEP THREE ROUGH-DRAFT (draw a diagram of your design, make a list of materils needed)):

before you get started you should take a look at how others have do

BRAINSTORM ON PAPER

Each individual member needs to design their own rocket on paper that solves the following problems

Answer the following questions on the back or front of your sketch

  1. How will you hold and protect the egg

  2. How will you hold and protect the altimeter

  3. What is your recovery system?

  4. How will you attach your two parachutes?

  5. How will you deploy your two parachutes while keeping all the parts together and not causing damage?

  6. What are you going to use for an engine and engine mount

  7. How will you keep the motor from sliding out the bottom or shooting up into the tube?

  8. What materials are you going to use?

  9. Make a hypothesis about the rocket based on the change of an independent variable. For example; We hypothesize that our rocket will fly higher than rocket B because the boat tail on rocket A will create less base drag.

  10. How am I going to make it beautiful?
